Masons Ironstone Plate in Oriental Pheasant Pattern London Retailers Mark

About the Item

This is a very decorative Plate by Mason's Ironstone, Lane Delph, England in the "Oriental Pheasant" pattern, dating to the late 19th century, circa 1890. The plate is circular in shape with a notched rim and is decorated in one of Mason's most vividly coloured and sought after chinoiserie patterns, the Oriental Pheasant pattern, as documented on page 120 of; A Guide to Mason's Patent Ironstone Patterns, circa 1813-1848, published by The Masons Collectors' club. The pattern would have been transfer printed then hand painted in bold enamels, with a particularly colourful and distinctive border design. The base of the plate has the rectangular crown and banner mark printed in puce, together with the retailers mark of T GOODE & Co of Audley Street, London which is another nice feature of this plate, all dating it to the late 19th century. Notes. Thomas Goode & Co. have occupied 19 South Audley Street, Mayfair, London since 1845 and first opened their doors to Mayfair’s retail customers back in 1875, specialising in fine ceramics, silver and glassware. The company still operates today, holding two royal warrants to supply the British royal household, one from Queen Elizabeth II and the other from the Prince of Wales.
