Georgian Mason's Ironstone Desert Plate in Cabbage Leaf Large Sprays Pattern

About the Item

This is a very good early Mason's Ironstone pottery desert plate in the distinctive cabbage leaf form, large sprays pattern, produced by the Mason's factory at Lane Delph, Staffordshire, England, circa 1813-1820. The plate is circular with a wavy edge and has the moulded form called "Cabbage Leaf" which is a very distinctive form unique to Mason's. Plates in this form are fairly rare, circa 1815. The plate is hand decorated in a floral pattern ( perhaps over a lightly printed outline), called "Large Spays" with much hand gilded detail and is illustrated on Page 162 of Mason's Pattern book published by The Mason's Collectors' Club This "Cabbage Leaf" desert ware was rarely marked, which is unusual for Mason's but this is definitely a Mason's plate, with an early date of circa 1813-1820 as ironstone was only produced by them from 1813, which is late George 111 period. Overall an early and distinctive rare Mason's plate.
