This Boule vase “Ornament “ is a rare limited edition numbered 1/5 by Elizabeth Garouste was born in 1949 in Paris and Mattia Bonetti in 1952 in Lugano (Switzerland). They pooled their work from 1980 to dedicate themselves to the creation of pieces of furniture and interior decoration. They start with the decoration of the Palace that Fabrice Eamer asks them to design. Then shortly after, the Néotu Gallery publishes them. Their furniture, baroque and barbarian, surprises, made up of heterogeneous and unusual materials, such as rock, hammered bronze, raffia, leather, skin, logs and glass ... They are at the instigation of fashion "barbaric". For their work, they use references such as the Middle Ages, Africa, through the poetry of Cocteau, the Venetian baroque and neoclassicism. This is a very rare shaped early small Jug or pitcher, hand painted in the Fence Japan gilded pattern, made by Mason's Ironstone, Lane Delph, England and dating to circa 1813-1820.
This jug is hand potted in a very rare shape with a loop handle and a pouring spout to the rim.
The pattern is hand painted in the Fence Japan pattern, with hand gilded highlights as illustrated on page 89 of a guide to Mason's patent ironstone patterns, circa 1813-1848, published by The Mason's Collectors' Club.
This jug is unmarked to the base, as was often the case in this period but it is definitely made by Mason's Ironstone with a similar jug illustrated on page 188 of Geoffrey Godden's guide to Masons China...

Particular and original German ceramic vase colored with a beautiful shade of red and a dark and vivid black; it has a simple shape but at the same time innovative and modernist; the beautiful and bright colors are balanced and proportioned respecting a minimalist design; the glazing of the vase was obtained by first laying down one color, proceeding to fix it by firing it in the kiln, then the same procedure was carried out for the other color; on the bottom is the mark "W. Germany"; it was produced between 1968 and 1971 in a craft workshop in the city of Dresden (then in East Germany), an important center for the production of porcelain and ceramics. "Fat lava" is the name given to a certain style of East German art...
