About the Item
Scandinavian modern ceramic bulls eye bowl by Aune Siimes for Arabia in the 1940s/1950s. Beautiful piece of mid-century modern art ceramics. Signed at the bottom. Good vintage condition, minor wear consistent with age and use.
Aune Siimes is one of the pioneers of our Finnish ceramic artists in working with thin porcelain. Alongside Siimes' thin bowls and vases, her porcelain jewellery and her own version of the nerikomi- and neriage techniques, as well as the miniature sculptures and often bull's-eye stoneware and velvet clay objects she created early in her career, form a balanced and beautiful body of work. Aune Siimes worked in Arabia from 1932 to 1964, and was a member of the Art Department from the 1937 Paris World's Fair collection.
