About the Item
A very nice set of 3 earthenware plates from Creil-Montereau Terre de Feu, from the series of Musical Subjects, representing 3 famous operas with various characters illustrating the theme and musical scores, dating from the late 19th to early 20th centuries.
These plates are in very good condition and are signed underneath.
The operas are Faust, Lucie de Lammermoor, and Les dragons de Villars by Maillard.
Lucie de Lammermoor
Lucie de Lammermoor is the French adaptation of the opera "Lucia di Lammermoor" by Gaetano Donizetti. "Lucia di Lammermoor" is the epitome of the romantic opera that was popular with audiences of the time. Edgardo and Lucia, who belong to two rival families, love each other passionately, but their love is opposed by Lucia's brother, Enrico. With false evidence, he manages to convince his sister of her lover's betrayal.
Les dragons de Villars by Maillard
The story is said to have been inspired by "La Petite Fadette" by George Sand. It was premiered by the Théâtre-Lyrique in Paris on September 19, 1856
