About the Item

A complete set of 12, Digoin Sarreguemines, French faïence plates, known as "Les mois de l'année à la campagne." Translating to: The months of the year in the countryside. Each plate shows a unique black, transfer printed image, relating to a month of the year. Illustrated are ‘campagne,’ or countryside activities particular to each month, such as fishing, hunting, picnicking or apple harvesting. The name of the month is printed in French at the bottom of each image - from Janvier to Décembre. So typically French! A white body with a basket weave border, and a French blue, hand painted lining on the inside border and the outer rim. 7 inches in diameter - perfect for canapés or pastry. Terrific hung together for a display of the French life. Showing the printed mark used from 1919-1920, just after WWI: Digoin and Sarreguimines, France, with the shield and crown. Eleven plates are excellent, November has a shallow sliver to the rear rim, unseen from the front, as shown in the last photo.
