Newcastle Light Baluster, England C1765

About the Item

A classic Newcastle light baluster, perhaps the finest of all the English shapes; certainly the finest of its period. The glass is light and well-balanced, a pleasure to hold or to see. This shape is considered by many to be the most beautiful of all the traditional English shapes. A pointed round-funnel bowl sits on a composite stem, consisting of a dumbbell on a double-spiral opaque twist around a gauze core. Well balanced and perfectly proportioned.
