About the Item

A pair of beautiful and rare Italian glass vases from the 'Istria series' by Lino Tagliapietra and Marina Angelin for Effetre International, Murano, 1986. The vases are made of hand blown glass composed of blue, red, white, and black glass. Each vase is a handmade and therefore unique and a one-of-a-kind piece. There are differences in each vase and no one is exactly like the other ones. There is still an Effetre International label on them and they are graven (labeled) at the bottom with 'Tagliapietra / Angelin, Effetre International, Murano 1986'. The price is for two vases. The vases are part of the 'Istria series'. Istria is the largest peninsula in the Adriatic Sea. The peninsula is located at the head of the Adriatic between the Gulf of Trieste and the Kvarner Gulf. It is shared by three countries: Croatia, Slovenia, and Italy. Lino Tagliapietra is an influential Italian glass artist and master glassmaker who is recognized for his skills and talents throughout the world.

Glass Bowl by Lino Tagliapietra for Effetre, Clear Sepia Black Glass, Italy 1986
By Lino Tagliapietra, Effetre International Company
Located in Hausmannstätten, AT
A gorgeous Italian glass bowl by Lino Tagliapietra for Effetre International, Murano, 1986. The bowl still has an Effetre International label on it. It is also graven at the bottom with Lino Tagliapietra, Effetre International and 1987 the year of creation. Clear glass with a black or sepia colored thin net like pattern called 'zanfirico' (Italian): A type of polychrome cane made by assembling a bundle of rods of different colors, and heating it until it is soft. The bundle is then attached to two pontils and elongated by drawing. At the same time, the bundle is twisted to produce a spiral pattern. Zanfirico, which is a synonym for vetro a retorti, takes its name from the Venetian dealer Antonio Sanquirico, who, in the 1830s, encouraged the revival on Murano of this and other traditional techniques. About Lino Tagliapietra: Master glassblower Lino Tagliapietra is one of the world’s most prominent glass artists. Trained in traditional Venetian techniques, Tagliapietra is a key influence on the American studio glass movement. In 1955, at the age of 21, Tagliapietra received the title of maestro. He established himself with vividly colored sculptures...
