About the Item
Mid-century decorative ceramic water jug (circa 1960s) by Marcel Giraud, Vallauris, France. A delightful creation with a graceful, spherical shape, sporting a wide mouth for filling and narrow spout for pouring. The glaze is a sandy-white coloured base with a Japonisme-inspired decorative motif. The spout lips are painted green and brown. It may be used for its intended purpose or simply displayed as a beautiful ceramic piece. Either way, it will bring some Zen into your life. In very good overall condition. Upon request a video will be provided. Please enjoy the many photos accompanying the listing. Incised on the underside is the maker's mark: 'Giraud' and hand painted 'Vallauris'.
About the Artist: Marcel Giraud (born 1937), from Vallauris, France left school at the age of 13 to become an apprentice potter at the workshop of Blaise Rubino. He later worked at several other workshops in the area until he opened his own studio in 1960 creating mostly utilitarian ware. Since 1975 Giraud has taken up painting, sculpture and continues to create sculptural figures, animals and other decorative objects in his retirement.

Marcel Giraud
Marcel Giraud was born in 1937 in Vallauris, France. He left school at the age of 13 to become an apprentice potter at the workshop of Blaise Rubino. He later worked at several other workshops in the area until he opened his own studio in 1960, creating mostly utilitarian ware. Since 1975, Giraud has taken up painting, sculpture and continues to create sculptural figures, animals and other decorative objects in his retirement.
