After Fragonard Painting Signed French Style Porcelain Hand Painted Matched Porcelain Cabinet 2 Cups with Saucer and 4 small plates. Manufactured by Handgemalt Germany Rembrand. Porcelain cabinet teacup and saucer each hand painted with The Fragonard Love Story-Courting Couple Motif gold trim. Beautiful gold floral gilt edging, cobalt blue with a deep brown background for the image of the couple. Hand painted porcelain Featuring a couple dressed in fine 18th Century clothing. The couple are in a woodland pastoral setting. The gentleman is standing in front of the lady serenading her with a guitar. Across the bottom on the left side of the motif is signed “Fragonard.” Each plate with a different scene painting of Fragonnard. Fragonard Courting Couple or Fragonard Love Story, on plates, teacups, brooches, and vases. These courting couples were inspired from the work of artist Jean Honore Fragonard (1732-1806). Fragonard was a French painter of the Rococo style who was popular in the latter half of the 18th Century, around the time of Marie Antoinette, Louis XV and Louis XVI. Rococo painters featured pastoral landscapes and incorporated in their paintings myths of love, cherubs, cupids, venus and mythical creatures. Portraiture was very popular among the Rococo painters and featured aristocratic courting couples on leisurely outings. Dimensions: 2 x teacups:5 inches wide including handle x 4 inches diameter x 2 1/4 inches tall. 2 x saucers: 6 inches diameter. 4 plates: 8 inches diameter There are no chips, breaks, or repairs but the brown paint shows some scratches and loss of paint. They are part of the Fragonard 18th century love story collection. Dishes marked with the gold crown over "R" Monogram Handgemalt Germany Rembrand. In the Style of Sevres and Limoges Porcelain. Made in Germany Circa 1970.
