18th Century Wedgwood Solid Green Jasper Stoneware Caryatid Bough Pot

About the Item

Etruria, Staffordshire, c.1790, white jasper pierced grid, molded green body ornamented with bas-relief figure of Venus and alternating urns of flowers within molded arches, high-relief floral festoons, corners as caryatids and foliage supports on stepped paw feet, impressed “WEDGWOOD” at base, 9 in. Ex. Stanley F. Goldfein, New York; Theodore & Rosalind Spak, Miami; Samuel G. & Catherine B. Oster, Philadelphia. Shape no. 267 in Wedgwood's "Shape Book." A blue example from Christie’s, New York is illustrated pp 206 of Robin Reilly’s 1994 “Wedgwood Jasper.” Similar vases are on public exhibition at and published in the respective catalogs from the Birmingham Museum of Art and Nottingham Castle Museum. However, both those examples lack their pierced grids.
