About the Item

British and American, 19th/early 20th century, fifteen Wedgwood solid blue jasper ware two inch medallions, each depicting an individual horse in a unique pose, modeled by Edward Birch (1730-1814) after George Stubbs (1724-1806), marked "WEDGWOOD," set in figured oak with a parcel-gilt mahogany frame and original wavy glass, 14 x 19 in. Provenance: paper label verso for House of Philip Oriel, Madison Ave; Dr. Ellis F. Rubin & Suzanne Borow Rubin; Freeman's Hindman Note: Philip Oriel moved to 366 Madison Ave. circa 1913 and was described as have selling fine reproductions of 18th century furniture and decor. He likely set this Arts & Crafts frame around a Victorian collection of medallions, as contemporary exported medallions would have further been stamped "England."
