A Mid 19th Century Silver Plated Spirit Decanter Coaster, English Circa 1840
About the Item
A very good silver plated spirit decanter coaster featuring a high walled body & flaring rim rising from a turned wooden base, the underside lined in red baize. This particular style of coaster was specifically designed to shield spirits such as brandy, or fortified wines such as port or sherry from the heat of a fireplace.
Note: the decanter shown in these images is used solely for illustration purposes and is not included in the sale of the coaster.

A very fine & impressively large silver plated soup tureen by Elkington & Company of London with a capacity to hold 4 quarts.
The substantial oval body having open handles, richly decorated with embossed & engraved foliate motifs & centered by blank foliate cartouches, the conforming lid bearing engraved heraldic crests.
Raised overall upon a stepped oval foot, with the underside bearing impressed factory marks for Elkington & Co., together with date letter for 1884.
In extremely good overall condition, and priced competitively in comparison to similar examples in the marketplace.
ELKINGTON & COMPANY: George Richards Elkington & Henry Elkington were the first to discover and patent the silver plating process in the 1830's. They were subsequently awarded Royal warrants to several members of the British Royal Family including Queen Victoria, King Edward VII, King George V, Queen Mary & King George VI.
