A Very Fine George V Period Silver Plated Entrée Dish, England Circa 1912

About the Item

A very fine & heavy George V silver plated entree dish, showing a curvilinear shaped base fitted with a conforming domed lid with a detachable handle, richly decorated overall with embossed & foliate engraved detail together with blank cartouches on either side (suitable for monogramming), raised overall on robust lion’s paw shaped feet. The underside bearing factory plate date marks used on items manufactured by Barker Ellis Silver Co. in 1912, together with early 20th century retailer marks for Z. Auerbach & Co. of Montreal.

The substantial oval body having open handles, richly decorated with embossed & engraved foliate motifs & centered by blank foliate cartouches, the conforming lid bearing engraved heraldic crests. Raised overall upon a stepped oval foot, with the underside bearing impressed factory marks for Elkington & Co., together with date letter for 1884. ELKINGTON & COMPANY: George Richards Elkington & Henry Elkington were the first to discover and patent the silver plating process in the 1830's.
