About the Item

This magnificent antique Victorian sterling silver spirit kettle has a baluster shaped form. The surface of the kettle is embellished with exceptional chased floral designs, incorporated within plain impressive interlacing foliate designs, all on a matte background. This 19th century silver kettle is fitted with a hinged hallmarked cover encircled with further scrolling leaf decoration, reflecting that of the body. The cover is surmounted with the exceptional and original cast sterling silver finial modelled in the form of a stemmed floral spray. This fine example of antique teaware is fitted with an impressive hallmarked sterling silver scrolling handle ornamented with a plain handpiece, accented with large scrolling leaf sockets in junction with the body. This exceptional kettle is fitted with a swan necked spout, ornamented to the lower portion with a continuation of matte decoration. The magnificent kettle detaches from the original hallmarked cast sterling silver stand, supported by three impressive scrolling legs accented with further ornamentation reflecting that of the cover. The stand is encircled with an impressive cast and applied overlapping leaf decorated border. The stand incorporates a plain scrolling frame which retains the original hallmarked detachable spirit burner. The spirit kettle stand is fitted with the original chains and security pegs. The underside of the kettle and stand bear a Russian import hallmark*, in addition to the full British hallmarks. This magnificent kettle, with Russian interest, is the finest of its type you could hope to acquire. * This style of Russian import hallmark was used from 1882 and was discontinued in the late 1898. It bears the fineness mark, the town mark and the Cyrillic letters ПТ (Latin PT) meaning ПРИВОЗНЫХ ТОВАРОВ (Imported Goods). Condition This antique 19th century silver spirit kettle is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The chased, cast and applied decoration is very sharp. The interior of the kettle has been professionally cleaned and is ready for use. Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the kettle, stand and spirit burner, in addition to part hallmarks to the interior of the cover are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver. The Russian import hallmark to the underside of the kettle and stand are also very clear.
