Small Antique Edo Period Japanese Porcelain Teapot Imari Red Gold Panels
Located in Amsterdam, Noord Holland
Small teapot, square, rounded body on flat unglazed base. Curved handle and a short straight spout. Small upright mouthrim, flat lid with round knob. Imari decorated in iron-red and gold on the sides with flowering plants and grasses and two deeply recessed kidney-shaped panels with modelled decorations in high relief. One panel with a cock, chicken and two eggs on the other a bird perched on a branch of a prunus tree. Round the base of the spout an upturned pointed leaves pattern border. On the handle a floret between scrolls. On the cover round the base of the knob a leaves pattern border in low relief. In category 36 'Coloured Imari with no underglaze blue, iron-red and gold only' of his Japanese export porcelain, Impey states that the implication of this singular restriction of palette, without the use of underglaze blue, is that these may be the product of a single enamelling workshop, but may or may not be the product of a single kiln. The restriction is probably one of choice, for it would hardly be cheaper, if at all, to use a wider range of enamels, and no cheaper to use underglaze blue. Bottles, vases, teapots and other objects with similar recessed panels that form a kind of window through to a deeper picture layer were only produced for a short period. This was probably because they were too time-consuming to make and therefore expensive. This type of decoration is only found on Japanese pieces; Chinese imitations are still unknown. Japanese Imari objects decorated in a low relief are rare. In 'Fine & Curious' a bottle cat...

Vintage Chinese Sterling Silver Four Piece Tea and Coffee Service with Tray
By Wai Kee
Located in Jesmond, Newcastle Upon Tyne
An exceptional, fine and impressive vintage Chinese sterling silver four piece tea and coffee set with matching tea tray - boxed; an addition to our silver teaware collection. This exceptional vintage Chinese sterling silver tea and coffee service consists of a coffee pot, teapot, cream jug and covered sugar bowl, in addition to a matching tea tray. Each piece of this silver tea service has an oval rounded form with a plain spreading foot. The surface of each piece, including the tea tray is embellished with impressive finely engraved bamboo stalk and foliage decoration, all on a matte background. The teapot and coffee pot are fitted with domed hinged covers ornamented with a continuation of bamboo decoration and surmounted with the original circular rounded finials with satin wood resistors. Each piece of this impressive vintage Chinese silver service is fitted with plain angular C shaped silver handles, with plain tapering thumbpieces to the upper plateau. The coffee pot and cream jug are both fitted with a truncated spout and the teapot bears a plain swan necked spout. The Chinese silver sugar bowl is fitted with an impressive push fit cover, replicating the details of that to the teapot and coffee pot. This exceptional four-piece service sits to the original and matching tea tray. The tray has an oval form with oval inset handles to either end. Each handpiece and the rim of the tray is encompassed with an applied bamboo style border. This exceptional tea service benefits from the original hinged leatherette presentation case, with a satin and velvet lined interior, securing with two hinged latches. Such boxed services with matching trays are becoming increasingly difficult to locate. Condition The pieces of this vintage set are a superior gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The service has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition. The interior of each piece has been professionally cleaned and is ready for use. The original box has some signs of wear, but can be considered to be in presentation condition. The hallmarks struck to the underside of each piece are all very clear. Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this exceptional vintage Chinese silver tea set with tray...

Antique Chinese Teapot Kangxi/Yongzheng Imari Amsterdam Bont Qing
Located in Amsterdam, Noord Holland
A very nicely decorated Kangxi or Yongzheng Teapot. Rare teapot in the family of Amsterdam Bont. Dating to 1st half of the 18th century Amsterdams Bont A relatively unknown niche of Chinese porcelain from ca 1680-1740 that was partly decorated in Europe. Because mainstream Chinese collectors have yet to discover the historical significance of these wares they are relatively easy to find in Holland. While also being highly interesting and of often super quality and with an amazing array of decorations. Amsterdams Bont is a name given to porcelain partly decorated in the Netherlands (most likely in cities like Delft, Haarlem, Makkum). Because Amsterdam was at this moment in time the trade centre of the western world and also of the porcelain trade a lot of this over enamelling was probably commissioned by Amsterdam merchants, to reap higher profits on otherwise boring Chinese wares. The name Amsterdam Bont probably derives from the fact that these type of decorated ware was sold by Amsterdam Merchants. Amsterdam Bont consists of either blanc or under glaze blue decorated Chinese porcelain...

Antique 20thC Chinese Export Solid Silver Four Piece Tea Set, Singfat c.1900
By Sing Fat
Located in Royal Tunbridge Wells, Kent
Antique early-20th Century Chinese export solid silver four piece tea set, comprising of a coffee pot, teapot, sugar bowl and milk jug, each tree-trunk shaped body applied with prunus flowers and applied with decoration in relief, spout, handles and finials modelled as tree branches, outstanding quality and very heavy gauge. Hallmarked with Chinese Export marks (900+ silver standard), Makers marks SF, (Sing Fat), city of Shanghai. Sing Fat was a highly prolific Chinese retail silversmith, working in Shanghai and Canton between 1880 and 1940. All items by Sing Fat are characterized by high quality, unique design and incredible craftsmanship, so there is no surprise that the manufacturer’s fine pieces have always been in high demand. Rare and outstanding are the best words to describe exquisite works, produced and retailed by Sing Fat. Not only did the manufacturer craft such rare silver pieces, as miniature furniture and feeding sets, but also demonstrated ultimate attention to nuances in terms of shapes, style, functionality and elegance. The one thing that Sing Fat silverwares have in common is undoubtedly “sensitive attention to detail and quality and often a novel approach to what could be a mundane object” [see A.Von Ferscht, Chinese Export Silver 1785-1940, 4th edition 2015]. Beautifully crafted, Sing Fat pieces combined traditional Chinese motifs and modernistic details, that seemed so attractive to foreign customers. Even typical for that period, shapes, forms and ornaments were presented in a completely new and unique way. The lotus form rose bowls, double-headed dragon-inspired irregular shapes and spectacular repoussé chrysanthemum garlands were among the traits that were so appealing to European buyers. Along with Wang Hing, Leeching, Da Xing...

Beautiful and rare set of the coffee pitcher, sugar bowl with lid, and twelve sets of the round dish with coffee cup plus twelve dessert round plates in ceramic, designed by Paul McCobb for the "Contempi" line, Jackson Ceramics, Japan late 1950s. The set is orange and white, a very striking retro combination of colors. All 38 pieces are in very good shape. Paul McCobb was born in 1917 in Medford, Massachusetts. He moved from Boston to New York to pursue his dream of becoming a designer. When it came to designing he was completely self-taught with a very minimalistic approach to object creation influenced by Scandinavian design as well as the “Shaker” style in furniture making.
