About the Item

An Incredible and Very Rare Meissen Porcelain Tureen and Cover with Vegetable and Lobster Top. After the model from the 'Brühlsche Allerlei' service, painted with flower sprays, the tureen raised on four scroll feet and set with vegetable-form handles, the cover topped with an arrangement of Lobster, cauliflower, snap peas, asparagus, and carrots. The bottom is complete with Meissen crossed swords mark in underglaze-blue and impressed numeral 725/4. Meissen tureens in this size, quality, condition, and subject are rarely found. They are very complex to produce and were usually only made as a special order. The piece is further adorned with 24k gilt decoration which is another timely and costly decoration by Meissen, furthering this pieces importance and quality. Germany, Circa: 1880
