About the Item

Sergio Mazza designed this Delta Grande pendant for Italian lighting manufacturer Artemide in the 1960s. The model consists of a pressed crystal bowl and an opaline shade. The structure is from matt nickel-plated brass. The condition of the piece is very good. Currently there is one metal link between the lamp and the ceiling cap; the total length of this can be easily extended by replacing the link with a metal cord and adjusting the power cord accordingly. Delta is part of a range of lighting models named after the Greek alphabet. Other lamps from this series are amongst others 'Gamma', 'Kappa', 'Omega', 'Pi', 'Sigma' and 'Tau'.

Glass Pendant Lamp “Kappa” Model by Sergio Mazza for Artemide 60s
By Sergio Mazza, Artemide
Located in Padova, IT
Sergio Mazza is an Italian designer born in 1931 in Milan. In 1955 he began his free profession and since 1961 he has been working alongside G. Gramigna in the Smc studio, working in the furniture and industrial design fields. Among the various acknowledgments and prizes received, we recall the mention at the Compasso d'Oro 1960 for the Delta lamp by Artemide and the silver medal for the Italian apartment at the X Triennale in Milan. From 1967 he also began to design for Olivari, signing the Macco handles, up to the Giuliana model, with Gramigna, in 1987. In the publishing field, again with Gramigna, he directed the "Ottagono" magazine from its foundation until 1988. Artemide is a company specialized in the production of lighting accessories (lamps, chandeliers, light points), founded by Ernesto Gismondi and Sergio Mazza in 1959. The brand has been characterized since the beginning by a great attention to the design that has allowed over the years to win numerous international awards for its products. Among the most prestigious names in Italian design, Artemide is also one of the world's leading companies in high-end residential and professional lighting. Already in 1967 he received his first prize the prestigious Compasso d'Oro for the Eclisse lamp, designed by Vico Magistretti. This award is followed by many others, nationally and internationally, making Artemide one of the symbolic companies in the design lamp sector. In 1996 Artemide made its own a new manifesto, in which it still identifies itself today: with the motto "The Human Light...
