Poul Henningsen contrast chandelier Louis Poulsen Denmark 1962

About the Item

Nice pair of so called 'Contrast' chandeliers designed by Poul Henningsen and manufactured by Louis Poulsen in Denmark, 1962. The PH Contrast pendant lights are a special find for collectors because they're not made anymore. They were designed by Poul Henningsen for Louis Poulsen around 1960. Each pendant has 10 white aluminum discs and has different coloured surfaces in orange, blue, white, and chrome. This makes the light look really good. You can also change the bulbs position on the inside to make the colours look different, which is why the lamp is called "Contrast.” When the light shines through the pendant, the orange coloured inside makes it look even nicer. You can also move the bulbs up and down to change how bright the bottom part of the pendant is. Overall, these pendant lights are special because they combine cool design with practical features. Kindly note that the listed price is for 1 lamp. Danish architect Poul Henningsen, known by his initials, ”PH” was obsessed with light. He is the legendary creator of the lighting series carrying his name. He can be said to be the world’s first lighting architect. Poul Henningsen devoted his entire career to investigating the importance of light for our well being. He worked on the theory that the observer should not be subjected to direct glare from the electric light source. Henningsen used a series of layered shades to both spread the light and conceal the light bulb, thus creating a softer more diffused lighting. Literature; vintage Louis Poulsen catalog Thes lamps are checked in our own atelier, cleaned and are suitable for use in the USA.
