About the Item

Poul Henningsen PH5 mini pendant for Louis Poulsen in gray. Poul Henningsen originally introduced the full-sized PH 5 pendant light in 1958 as a classic new product. No one knew at the time that it would eventually become synonymous with the PH brand. Regardless of how the light is installed or the light source used, the PH 5 is completely glare-free. The PH 5 Mini is the newest example of the three shade system developed by Paul Henningsen in 1925-1926. Striking in form but compact enough to be used in multiples, this versatile design is suitable for both residential and commercial spaces. The PH system of metal shades are painted to ensure comfortable, uniform light distribution that is mainly directed downwards. Henningsen sought to create glare-free lighting and aim the light to where it most needed while creating soft shadows. The pendants were produced in a number of formats and colors with the undersides of shades painted white or gold to provide diffused lighting, and illuminate itself. The PH 5 Mini is composed of spun aluminium shades, sand-blasted glass bottom diffuser and rolled aluminium struts. Price is per item. Available in classic white, modern white, hues of orange, hues of rose, hues of red, hues of green, hues of blue and hues of grey as well as monochrome colors of all black, blue and white. Pastels also available. Available in unlimited quantities. In-stock lead time 1-3 days. Out of stock lead time up to 8 weeks or more. Please note in-stock availability subject to change. UL listed. Poul Henningsen PH5 mini pendant for Louis Poulsen. Designed 1958, Mini in 2017. New, current production. Poul Henningsen developed the PH 5 in 1958 in response to constant changes made to the shape and size of incandescent bulbs by bulb manufacturers, naming it after the size of the pendant’s main shade, which is 50 cm in diameter. When the lamp was introduced, he wrote, typically daringly, about how he had lost faith that the manufacturers of incandescent light bulbs would ever learn to consider common sense or have the consumer’s best interest at heart: “I have accepted fate, and with Louis Poulsen´s permission I have designed a PH fixture, which can be used with any kind of light source, Christmas lights and 100 W metal filament bulbs. Although a fluorescent tube would be too much to ask in the existing form!” At the time, now one knew that the PH 5 would become synonymous with the PH light...

Poul Henningsen Ph 5 Mini Pendant

The fixture provides 100% glare-free light. Poul Henningsen developed the PH 5 in 1958 as a follow-up to his celebrated three-shade system. The fixture emits both downward and lateral light, thus illuminating itself. In the PH 5 Classic, a warmer tone of light is created by the inside red cone and a small blue reflector. The PH 5 Mini...
