Conditions: Very good. Wear consistent with age and use. Some inconspicuous oxidisation, mainly underneath the base and typical silver patina. Height: 68,5cms Width: 15cms Depth: 13,5cms
Baguès was created in 1840 in Auvergne by Noël Baguès. The company then specialized in the creation and manufacture of liturgical bronzes. With the generalization of electricity, Baguès began in 1860 with successful lighting bronzes. At the beginning of the 20th century, chandeliers were exported to London, Brussels, New York, Rome and even Cairo. In the 1920s, Baguès created its own models in fine ironwork: this was the birth of the collection with its characteristic foliage and parrots.

This particular Hans Kögl chandelier was originally brought to the US by a World War II American GI when returning from his deployment in Germany after the war and then hung in his home up until recently. In terms of look, a beautiful example of the Hollywood Regency style. Upscale. Elegant. Regal. Old money look. This chandelier's finish is known as Bole Gilding, a technique that began about eight thousand years ago in Europe and Asia. Bole - a specific type of colored clay - is applied first and then gold leaf is applied over it creating unique highlights of color with red being by far the most popular. Red undertones are thus purposeful and make each fixture one of a kind. A most beautiful acquisition for a discerning collector or aficionado of finer things.

This lamp was designed by Gio Ponti and manufactured by Ugo Pollice Illuminazione during the 1940s.
Gio Ponti was an icon of the modernist movement: the Italian designer, architect, artist and publisher contributed significantly to the worlds of architecture and design with his extensive work in Fine furniture and ceramics, education, office and residential buildings, and everything in between.
Gio Ponti was born in 1891 in Milan. It was there that he spent his childhood, and in 1921 he began to study architecture at the Politecnico di Milano. From 1923 to 1930 he served as the artistic director of the Richard-Ginori porcelain factory. In 1927, Ponti started his first architectural office, together with Emilio Lancia, and in 1928 he started the magazine Domus, which is still regarded as one of the most influential European magazines for architecture and design. He was also very influential during the period as a curator of the Milan Triennale.
After his collaboration with Emilio Lancia had come to an end, upon completion of the Torre Rasini, he began to work as an architect together with the engineers Antonio Fornaroli and Eugenio Soncini...
