About the Item

THE PRODUCT Presented here is the adjustable Swedish wall lamp model SL 3, designed by Alf Svensson for Bergbom & Co in the 1950s. The lamp features a bell-shaped, perforated brass shade mounted on a gracefully bent brass arm. The shade tilts vertically, and the arm rotates horizontally, offering full directional flexibility. The interior is lacquered white to enhance light reflection. Discreetly stamped “BERGBOM,” “SL 3,” and “MAX 25W” at the top of the shade, the lamp also bears the Swedish quality certification “S-mark” by SEMKO on the back of the wall mount — a hallmark of tested and approved electrical goods from the era. The socket accommodates standard E27 bulbs. THE DESIGNER Alf Svensson (1923–1992) was a prolific Swedish designer known for his contributions to both furniture and lighting. After studying at the School of Slöjdföreningen, he became head designer at DUX and led creative direction at Bergbom & Co — leaving a lasting mark on Scandinavian modernism. THE MANUFACTURER Founded in 1940 by industrialist Efraim Ljung, Bergbom & Co became a key name in Swedish lighting. Ljung, who also founded the renowned DUX brand, built a legacy that continues through generations. THE HERITAGE This is a fine example of Swedish modernism — the SL 3 balances elegance and function, and remains a sought-after piece among mid-century lighting collectors.
