Vesta Postmodern Glass Sconce Pair for VeArt by Ernesto Gismondi C 1990

About the Item

A rare pair of postmodern Italian wall sconces, the Vesta model was designed by Ernesto Gismondi for VeArt around 1990, capturing the bold experimentation of late 20th-century Italian lighting design. These striking fixtures combine mixed materials, featuring a clear and frosted Murano glass shade, elegantly held by a sculptural steel and brass bracket. The contrast between the delicate hand-blown glass and the industrial strength of metal creates a dynamic interplay of light and form. Designed for both aesthetic appeal and functionality, the sconces are wall-mounted with an integrated E27 socket, ensuring compatibility with European and US wiring standards. VeArt, founded in 1965 by Sergio Billiotti and Ludovico Diaz De Santillana, was a key innovator in Venetian glass lighting, collaborating with masters like Tobia Scarpa and Umberto Riva. When Artemide acquired VeArt in 1991, it marked the end of an era, making these sconces a rare and historically significant artifact of Italian design.
