About the Item

Gino Sarfatti (1912-1985) Pair of wall lamps (two pairs available) (Price per Light not per pair.) Manufactured by Arteluce Italy, 1950 Perspex and painted metal Measurements: 17.8 cm x 22.9 cm x 8.9 cm 7 in x 9 in x 4.5 in Literature: MarCo Romanelli and Sandra Severi, Gino Sarfatti: selected works 1938-1973, Milan, 2012 Details: Each with manufacturer’s paper label (2) Bio: Rising above the devastation of World War II, post-war Italian design reached new heights of productivity and ingenuity, particularly in the realm of lighting. Gino Sarfatti is among the most celebrated lighting designers from this fruitful period. Before founding his company Arteluce in 1939, Sarfatti studied aeronautical engineering. He brought the inventiveness of a self-taught outsider to the field of lighting design, while his mechanical background lent lightness and ingenuity of construction. Poetic underpinnings are also evident in lamps such as model no. 1034 (sometimes referred to as the “Vine” lamp), which features a nearly 8' twisting brass stem graced with nine delicate, articulating white shades like buds on a flower.

Gino Sarfatti 228 wall lamps Arteluce Italy 1957
By Arteluce, Gino Sarfatti
Located in Roosendaal, Noord Brabant
Rare pair of model 228 wall lamps designed by Gino Sarfatti and manufactured by Arteluce in Italy in 1957. This extraordinary green colour reminds us of the flourishing Alfa Romeo Giulietta from the same year, whizzing across the Italian countryside. It’s these colour memories where we fell in love with and cherish. It could be Sarfatti once saw a car passing by and was struck by its vivid colour. These lamps have a minimalistic but strong and iconic design. The slight frosted glass diffuser sits in a metal ring. The socket is held by a metal cylinder with metal screws that are visible. The ring is attached to the wall plate. In very good original condition and rewired. Kindly note that the listed price is for the pair of 2 lamps. Literature; M. Romanelli, S. Severi, Gino Sarfatti opere scelte 1938; 1973 Silvana Editore 2012, page 447 and Arteluce vintage...
