About the Item

An extremely rare version of the Conrad Fehn Amsterdamse School fringed copper desk lamp. A one off with a different design than the more common ones like depicted in the ''Living in the Amsterdam School'' book. The design with the fringes is said to have been inspired by the carnivorous plant. Looking at the shapes of carnivorous plants, it seems indeed to have been inspired by the so called ''Venus Flytrap''. It's a surprisingly large and heavy lamp, a bit over 40 cm seen from the side and 35 cm in height. The base is 20 cm wide. It's quite heavy and it stands very stable. This piece combines very well with other Amsterdam School items and is a true eye catcher in eclectic out-of-the-box interiors. It works with one lightbulb (E27) and is fitted with a standard European plug. The wiring has been replaced in either the 1960s or 70s. On request we can rewire for European use. ''The Amsterdam School'' stands for the Dutch architectural movement that flourished between 1910 and 1940. The movement influenced other art forms and furniture design. Some characteristics of the Amsterdam School include: Expressionist and organic shapes, decorative sculptural elements and a focus on craftsmanship. The Amsterdam School movement is seen as a very important chapter in Dutch architectural history and to this day a very recognizable and beloved style worldwide.

Modular Typ 505 lamp by Curt Fischer for Midgard, 1960s
By Curt Fischer, Midgard
Located in EVERDINGEN, NL
A TYP 505 wall mounted lamp, based on the iconic TYP 113. This modular lamp was produced with 3 different arm lengths, 3 types of (rotating) lampshades and a choice in type of joints. The lamp is in good condition, rewired and all parts working and rotating. The original lightswitch is also still present and working. Curt Fischer is well known for his innovative designs and still regarded as one of the greatest 20th-century inventors. At the time, just after WW1, recovering from the war, people worked long hours until late in the evening. The then-typical lamps would only cast light from the ceiling, causing the shadow of the worker’s body and head to cast shades over their projects. For an inventor like Curt Fischer, who had transformed horse-drawn coaches into mobile radio...
