Bertil Brisborg Two Arm Brass Table Lamp, Nordiska Kompaniet, Sweden, Late 1940s

About the Item

This very rare table lamp was designed by Swedish designer Bertil Brisborg in the late 1940s. Produced by Nordiska Kompaniet, it is marked with the production number 9503 on the underside of the base. The design is distinguished by its twin-arm body, crafted entirely in brass. Over time, the brass has developed a natural and beautiful patina. The circular base features a corrugated crown detail at its center. A slim, tubular brass stem extends upward, topped with a ring-shaped handle for ease of portability. The two tapered, clip-on lamp shades have been newly refreshed in a smooth ivory fabric. The lamp is in good original condition with a natural patina on the brass. Minor signs of wear consistent with age and use. Renewed shades. Rewired to EU standards with a 220V European plug. Other Swedish Modern designers working in the same era include Harald Notini, Hans Bergström, Erik Tidstrand, Hans-Agne Jakobsson and Josef Frank.

Nordiska Kompaniet 'Hytte' Armchair in Solid Pine, Swedish Modern, 1940s
By David Rosén, Nordiska Kompaniet, Axel Einar Hjorth
Located in The Hague, NL
This rare armchair was produced by the Swedish company Nordiska Kompaniet in the early 1940s. It belongs to the 'Hytte' series, which is documented in several NK catalogs and advertisements from the time. The Hytte series was a continuation of Axel Einar Hjorth's Sportstugemöbler ("sports cabin furnishings"), a collection of pinewood furniture designed for country homes. After Hjorth, designer David Rosén carried on this style, creating several series for Nordiska Kompaniet. Crafted entirely from pinewood, the chair features club-shaped, tapered legs connected by stretchers, a slatted and slightly curved backrest, and carved armrests. It is versatile and can be used as a desk chair or an elegant side chair. The chair remains in completely original condition, with a natural and even patina on the pinewood. It shows minor wear consistent with age and use. One of the four furniture...
