About the Item

Table lamp SAFFO angelo design MANGIAROTTI for ARTEMIDE. ORIGIN Italy PERIOD Anni 60 DESIGNER Angelo MANGIAROTTI (Milan, 1921-2012) was one of the most original Italian architects, designers and sculptors of the 20th century. A graduate of the Milan Polytechnic, he lived a formative period in the United States where he met Gropius and Mies van der Rohe. His work is distinguished by his skillful use of materials and his search for structural balance between form and function. Famous in design for objects such as the Eros table, based on gravity joints without mechanical joints, he collaborated with companies such as Skipper, Agape and Vistosi. In architecture, he designed stations, factories and residences with an essential and constructively innovative language. He was also a sculptor and lecturer, always maintaining an ethical and functional view of design. His works are featured in international museums. MARK ARTEMIDE is an Italian company founded in 1960 in Pregnana Milanese by Ernesto Gismondi and Sergio Mazza that has become one of the leading names in lighting design worldwide. Since its inception, Artemide has combined aesthetics, technological innovation and attention to human well-being, with an approach that will find full expression in the manifesto "The Human Light." The first major success was Vico Magistretti's Eclisse lamp (1965), which won the Compasso d'Oro in 1967. In the following years, the company has collaborated with big names in design such as Castiglioni, Sottsass, De Lucchi, Mario Botta, Zaha Hadid, Herzog & de Meuron, to contemporaries such as Bjarke Ingels. Some of the most iconic products include the Tolomeo (1987), designed by Michele De Lucchi and Giancarlo Fassina, and the Tizio (1972) by Richard Sapper, both of which have become symbols of Italian design around the world. Artemide is featured in major international museums, including MoMA in New York and the Centre Pompidou in Paris. The company is active in residential, contract and architectural lighting, and is distinguished by continuous research into materials, optics, sustainability and energy efficiency. Today it is led by Carlotta de Bevilacqua and continues to innovate in the area of intelligent lighting, staying true to its vocation: creating light to improve people's lives. MODEL The SAFFO lamp was designed by Angelo Mangiarotti in 1966 and manufactured by Artemide starting in 1967. It is a fine example of design that blends formal elegance and functionality, with strong references to the author's sculptural sensibility. It consists of a blown Murano glass lampshade, characterized by an organic, flowing shape reminiscent of a mushroom, mounted on a cylindrical polished aluminum base. The glass fades from white opaline at the bottom to clear smoked glass toward the top, producing a soft, diffused light that is ideal for creating an intimate atmosphere. MATERIALS Glass and aluminum DIMENSIONS H 34 cm Ø 21cm CONDITIONS The lamp is working and in excellent condition, as can be seen from the attached photos. Evaluate through the attached photos.
