Table Lamp Electra by Giuliana Gramigna Per Artemide, Italy 60's

About the Item

This table lamp was designed by Giuliana Gramigna per Artemide - Italy - and was produced by Artemide in Italy in 1968. It features a large round base in white glass and a smaller rounded top in a lighter glass. The lamp can be used as a ceiling light. Artemide was founded in the province of Milan in 1959 by the designers Ernesto Gismondi and Sergio Mazza. In the following years, new designs were created for the evolving collections of Artemide, whose spirit has always been to create original and effective lamps, including suspension and ceiling lamps, in collaboration with the greatest design talents around. the world. Among Artemide's great successes we should mention the Eclipse (1967) by Vico Magistretti and the minimal halogen desk lamp Tizio (1972) by the Italian-German designer Michele De Lucchi which is one of the most popular office icons in the world. Again Tolomeo Lamp (1987) which has become a symbol of the "Made in Italy" style since the end of the last century. Today Artemide continues to develop high-tech productions that are always attentive to sustainability. Over time, many of Artemide's lighting products have been awarded the famous Compasso d'Oro award, and the company itself won the “Career Achievement” award in 1995. For more than 50 years Artemide has marked the trend of design innovation with sophisticated products that have influenced the history of world design. Confirmation of this is the presence of many of these objects in the major museums of modern art in the world. Giuliana Gramigna passed away in Milan on 20 September 2016. She was born in Milan in 1929, she has been involved since 1961 alongside Sergio Mazza above all in interior architecture and design. Quatrifolio, Olivari, Lualdi among the many companies that have appreciated her work.

Sergio Mazza is an Italian designer born in 1931 in Milan. In 1955 he began his free profession and since 1961 he has been working alongside G. Gramigna in the Smc studio, working in the furniture and industrial design fields. Among the various acknowledgments and prizes received, we recall the mention at the Compasso d'Oro 1960 for the Delta lamp by Artemide and the silver medal for the Italian apartment at the X Triennale in Milan. From 1967 he also began to design for Olivari, signing the Macco handles, up to the Giuliana model, with Gramigna, in 1987. In the publishing field, again with Gramigna, he directed the "Ottagono" magazine from its foundation until 1988. Artemide is a company specialized in the production of lighting accessories (lamps, chandeliers, light points), founded by Ernesto Gismondi and Sergio Mazza in 1959. The brand has been characterized since the beginning by a great attention to the design that has allowed over the years to win numerous international awards for its products. Among the most prestigious names in Italian design, Artemide is also one of the world's leading companies in high-end residential and professional lighting. Already in 1967 he received his first prize the prestigious Compasso d'Oro for the Eclisse lamp, designed by Vico Magistretti. This award is followed by many others, nationally and internationally, making Artemide one of the symbolic companies in the design lamp sector. In 1996 Artemide made its own a new manifesto, in which it still identifies itself today: with the motto "The Human Light...
