The finely crafted glass softly diffuses a warm, ambient light. Dimensions: Height: 39 cm Diameter: 13 cm Condition: Excellent. The piece has been meticulously restored: the metal has been stripped, treated, and patinated with expert care. The electrification has been fully checked to ensure safe, modern use. A Brief History: Paul Kiss (1886–1962) – Master of Art Deco Ironwork Born in 1886 in Transylvania and based in Paris from 1907, Paul Kiss became one of the leading iron artists of the Art Deco movement. Trained by masters such as Edgar Brandt and Raymond Subes, he soon established his own studio in the French capital, developing a highly recognizable style: geometric lines, delicate hammering, and stylized animal motifs, often enhanced by refined patinas. A recipient of numerous awards—including the Gold Medal at the 1925 Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs—Kiss was commissioned for prestigious projects, including for the Royal Court of Egypt. His creations—chandeliers, mirrors, consoles, monumental gates—combine architectural rigor with sculptural elegance. Signed “Paul Kiss Paris,” his works are highly sought after by collectors and featured in some of the most prestigious private and institutional collections. He passed away in France in 1962, leaving a significant legacy in 20th-century decorative arts. Muller Frères, Lunéville – Masters of Art Glass Muller Frères is an iconic name in both Art Nouveau and Art Deco, known for their exceptional glass creations and artistic lighting. Founded in Lunéville, Lorraine (France), the company stood alongside Daum and Gallé as one of the great names in French glassmaking. Origins: The Muller story began with a talented family passionate about glassmaking. Among nine siblings, Henri, Camille, Désiré, Eugène, and Victor Muller devoted themselves to the craft, training in the workshops of renowned glassmakers—including Émile Gallé in Nancy. This early collaboration with a pioneer of Art Nouveau provided them with sophisticated techniques and artistic vision. Founding of the Workshop (ca. 1895–1910): By the late 19th century, the Muller brothers established their own studio in Lunéville, near Nancy. They specialized in vases, bowls, lamps, and chandeliers made of engraved, blown, and sometimes enameled glass. Their Art Nouveau pieces featured floral and organic motifs, inspired by nature. Golden Age: The Art Deco Shift (1920s): With changing tastes in the early 20th century, the Mullers transitioned into the Art Deco style, embracing more geometric lines and abstract motifs. They focused increasingly on lighting—chandeliers, sconces, table lamps—often paired with wrought iron or bronze mounts. Their mastery of blown pâte de verre and acid-etched glass allowed them to create pieces of remarkable quality, distinguished by their subtle color gradients and unique textures. Most pieces are signed “Muller Frères Lunéville,” a mark of authenticity and excellence. Decline and Legacy: Like many artisanal manufacturers, Muller Frères was affected by economic downturns and the upheaval of World War II. The company gradually declined and eventually closed its doors in the mid-20th century. Nevertheless, their creations remain highly prized by collectors and art enthusiasts. Today, Muller Frères Lunéville is a symbol of French glass artistry—synonymous with elegance, innovation, and craftsmanship.
