About the Item

Presenting a gorgeous early 20th century American Federal Style Console Mirror from circa 1920-30. This console mirror is of the highest quality ! It is constructed of wood and gesso and absolutely gloriously gilded. On top of the mirror is a carved American Eagle, classically Federal in Style after Independence. It is a Mirror that was made to Scream “American Independence” and pride in the symbol of American Independence The Eagle sits on a carved rock with carved talons and its wings spread and its neck turned. Either side of the eagle he is flanked by carved acanthus leaves. The Case for the Mirror Section is circular with balls on the inside in a circle with ebony stringing and a Convex Mirror. The Mirror is the Original and has all the ‘signs’ you want to see of natural aging for a piece this age. On the base of the mirror the acanthus leaves on the top of the mirror are replicated with a central floral style central carving. The gesso on the rear (see photos) has a number of cracks and minor losses but this does not affect the structural integrity of the piece as it looks almost perfect from a frontal view. The natural cracking to the gesso due to age and the aging to the wooden structure tell us that this is most likely early 20th century circa 1920-30 as opposed to later.

Repaired: It appears that one crack to the gesso on the rear has had some glue inserted. Wear consistent with age and use. Minor losses. Minor structural damages. Minor fading. Very good. Appears almost perfect from frontal view save crazing to the mirror. Cracks to the gesso to the rear but do not adversely affect the pieces structural integrity.
