A 19th Century Spanish Colonial Santos Depicting The Virgin of the Apocalypse

About the Item

The naive, hand carved wood figure of The Holy Mother vanquishing the Apocalyptic Beast, showing the Holy Virgin standing over the Beast (Satan), pinning it down with her left foot on its back, while impaling it with a spear (absent), her opposing hand holding the remnants of an open Bible. Decorated overall with hand painted polychrome & gilt detail over gesso, mounted upon its original plinth wood base. Measuring, 8” high x 4” wide x 3.25” deep.
