Green Bay Packers Super Bowl Champions Pennant, 1967

About the Item

Presented is a vintage green bay packers felt pennant from 1967. The pennant is composed of green felt, with yellow printed lettering, and a yellow felt headband, stitched on in a running stitch. The pennant has yellow block lettering that reads “Green Bay Packers” and an illustration of quarterback Bart Starr throwing a football at left. The pennant would have been used by fans to celebrate the team during games and super bowl run. The Green Bay Packers are an American professional football team based in Green Bay, Wisconsin. One of the most-storied franchises in the history of the sport, the Packers have won the most championships, 13 in total, of any National Football League team. The team’s most successful period was in the 1960s, under the legendary coach Vince Lombardi, who had been hired in 1959. Lombardi’s Packers teams in the 1960s were stocked with talent, boasting future Hall of Fame players on offense and defense. The team thrived with quarterback Bart Starr, Jim Taylor, Paul Hornung, Forrest Gregg, Ray Nitschke, Willie Davis, Henry Jordan, Herb Adderley, and Willie Wood. The Green Bay Packers won championships in 1961 and 1962 and followed with three straight championships starting in the 1965–1966 season. On January 15, 1967, in the inaugural Super Bowl, the Packers defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 35–10. They successfully defended their Super Bowl title the following year against the Oakland Raiders, winning 33–14. Condition: Very good condition. Pennant printed lettering is intact and color is still vibrant. Green felt color has not faded, with no loss to the body of the pennant. Small loss to yellow headband at the top. Pennant is archivally mounted and framed in a custom-built black wooden frame.

1856 U.S. Coast Survey Map of Chesapeake Bay and Delaware Bay

Presented is U.S. Coast Survey nautical chart or maritime map of Chesapeake Bay and Delaware Bay from 1856. The map depicts the region from Susquehanna, Maryland to the northern Outer Banks in North Carolina. It also shows from Richmond and Petersburg, Virginia to the Atlantic Ocean. The map is highly detailed with many cities and towns labeled throughout. Rivers, inlets, and bays are also labeled. Various charts illustrating more specific parts of the region are marked on the map using dotted lines. The lines form boxes, and the corresponding chart number and publication date are given. Extensive triangulation surveys were conducted the length of Chesapeake Bay and are illustrated here. Hampton Roads, Virginia is labeled, along with the James, York, and Rappahannock Rivers, which were all extensively surveyed. The chart was published under the supervision of A. D. Bache, one of the most influential and prolific figures in the early history of the U.S. Coast Survey, for the 1856 Report of the Superintendent of the U.S. Coast Survey. Alexander Dallas Bache (1806-1867) was an American physicist, scientist, and surveyor. Bache served as the Superintendent of the U.S. Coast Survey from 1843 to 1865. Born in Philadelphia, Bache toured Europe and composed an important treatise on European Education. He also served as president of Philadelphia's Central High School and was a professor of natural history and chemistry at the University of Pennsylvania. Upon the death of Ferdinand Rudolph Hassler, Bache was appointed Superintendent of the United States Coast Survey.
