Antique billiard snooker pool table in stock inlaid marquetry
By Cox & Yeman
Located in Radstock, GB
A fabulous full size 12ft x 6ft mahogany and ebony marquetry billiard table, English circa 1875.
The side frame is embellished with decorative marquetry roundels and flowing symmetrical fauna of Boxwood and Amboyna, the cushions sides follow this repeating marquetry pattern on a smaller scale with further ebony roundels.
The bold gadrooned legs are complimented with scroll brackets and fitted with a vine leaf marquetry motif within a diamond of walnut and Amboyna.
Made by Cox & Yeman of London.
The table has been tastefully restored by hand with English handmade cotton nets, cushion rubbers, leathers and cloth.
Mr Henry Cox and Mr Edward Yeman joined forces at some time in the 1850s to form their own billiard table company, It would appear that Mr Cox was already building tables but needed the expertise of Mr Yeman and his sister who were trained by Burroughes and Watts stuffing cushions and making Holland covers respectively.
By 1864 they were fully fledged manufacturers of billiard tables and supplied specially made competition tables for the 1866 Oxford vs Cambridge match, Dufton’s ‘Great Handicap’ and the hotly contested Roberts and Cook championships. By 1873 the company was located at 184 Brompton Road and listed over fifty titled gentleman as customers including: The Duke of Richmond, The Duke of Wellington, the Earl of Jersey, the Nwab Nizam of Bengal, H.M. the King of Siam...

George Bussey Automaton Caddie Golf Bag
Located in Oxfordshire, GB
Antique Caddie Golf Bag, George Bussey Automaton Caddie.
A wonderful example of an early auto caddy by George Bussey. This is a rare find indeed as very few of these bags have survived, and they are difficult to obtain. The caddie has a boxwood carry handle and the main body of the caddie is made of mahogany. The boxwood handle is attached to the oak legs via metal rods and a brass mechanism. With this clever design the legs will open out automatically when the lower end is placed on the ground, they will then fold back in when lifted up. The canvas & leather bag for golf balls and the half pencil bag to the bottom of the stand are the original bags (flap is a replacement). The caddie stand is stamped with Bussey's name on the brass mechanism, and on both legs. There is a brass embossed trade label "Geo. Bussey & Co., London (with the Bussey arrow logo)' pinned onto the caddie bag...

Vintage Boxed Croquet Set, Jacques, Benetfink
Located in Oxfordshire, GB
Vintage boxed croquet set.
A good vintage croquet set in a later polished pine box with two carry handles that is stamped 'Jaques' and has a Jacques paper label on the inside of the lid. The set comes with four box wood croquet mallets with octagonal ash handles (which helps a player 'feel' the alignment of the mallet in play). To complete the set there are four balls in the standard croquet colours, six bent metal hoops, two new posts (the coloured bands indicating the order of play). The boxwood mallets are stamped 'Benetfink, London'.
Benetfink described themselves as 'furnishing ironmongers' and from 1845-1907 they had a large store on Cheapside in London. They sold a very large range of metalware items for the home and claimed in an advert in 1852 that they could furnish an eight-roomed house for £5.
As well as selling optical lanterns, chandeliers and lamps they also had a sports department offering bicycles and sports attire. By 1900 they were selling motorcycles as well motoring accessories.
Gamages (also a department store) took over Benetfink and Co...
