About the Item

This seven-panel sculptural screen in MDF is part of Jacques Jarrige’s Meanders series—a body of work in which the artist elevates the line to a central and monumental presence. Rather than simply dividing space, the screen becomes an active participant in it, transforming the environment through rhythm, transparency, and movement. Each panel is carved with an openwork design that traces a flowing, organic line—an abstract, calligraphic gesture that seems to have been drawn in air and given solid form. The undulating negative spaces move playfully across the panels, creating a sequence of animated voids that change continuously depending on light, perspective, and placement. Inspired by natural forms—rivers, branches, currents—the composition is both dynamic and meditative. The hand-shaped contours of the cutouts imbue the otherwise rigid MDF with a sense of softness and improvisation, reflecting Jarrige’s intuitive approach to material and form. While sculptural in its presence, the screen remains functional—serving as a space divider, backdrop, or standalone artwork. Its interplay of solid and empty space energizes any setting, casting shifting shadows and inviting visual exploration from every angle. This version features seven hinged panels, but the work is also available in a four-panel format, finished in white or black lacquer. Each screen, regardless of size or color, preserves the expressive spontaneity and tactile immediacy that define Jarrige’s Meanders series.
