This large, very detailed hand painted leather screen dates from late 19th century England and features a captivating Orchard Scene. The screen is made up of four panels, each arched and painted on high-quality leather, with burlap backing and brass tack edges. The fine craftsmanship and attention to detail are evident in every aspect of this piece. Each panel measures twenty four inches across and depicts a variety of activities, people and animals. The label reads: Made in England for B. Altman and Company, a luxury department store and chain, founded in 1865 in New York City, New York, by Benjamin Altman. Its flagship store, the B. Altman and Company Building at Fifth Avenue and 34th Street in Midtown Manhattan, operated from 1906 until the company closed the store at the end of 1989.

    Wear consistent with age and use. Very good condition- it could use a light cleaning as the varnish has darkened with age. Some light dings to the gold gilt paint around the frame. Over-all amazing condition.
