Set of 3 Vibrant Antique Fern Botanical Prints by E.J. Lowe, Hand-Colored, 1868
This beautiful set of three antique botanical prints from *Ferns: British and Exotic* by Edward Joseph Lowe (published between 1857 and 1860) offers a vibrant depiction of nature’s finest ferns. The prints, titled *Onoclea Sensibilis*, *Fadyenia Prolifera*, and *Cyclopeltis Semicordata*, are superbly hand-colored lithographs. These are wonderful specimens for anyone passionate about botany or natural history.
Lowe’s work is a masterpiece of Victorian botanical illustration, with each fern illustrated in intricate detail. The coloring is crisp and true to life, highlighting the natural beauty of these species. *Onoclea Sensibilis*, known as the Sensitive Fern, showcases its iconic fronds and distinctive fertile spikes. *Fadyenia Prolifera* features slender leaves and beautifully curled leaflets, while *Cyclopeltis Semicordata* exhibits the fine details of its rich, green pinnate leaves.
These hand-colored lithographs were produced by the noted printers, Day & Son, who were renowned for their high-quality printwork during the 19th century. Lowe’s publication is highly prized among collectors, gardeners, and botanists alike.
These prints are a stunning addition to any space, whether framed in a study, library, or living room, offering an aesthetic that bridges science and art. They are particularly sought after by collectors of antique botanical art...

Exceptional Crystal and Bronze Chandelier, L-A Marquis, France, C. 1860
Located in PARIS, FR
This very important 96-lights chandelier made entirely in chiseled and gilded bronze in the Renaissance style, is composed at the lower part of six large sets of ten light-arms, adorned with Bacchus masks, scalloped acanthuses, pearls and “cuir découpé” motifs (“cut leather”), and at the upper part of six sets of six light-arms. The light-arms set is designed around an architectured central shaft, made of foliate balusters, surrounded by three female tritons, each bearing a basket of exotic fruits. The whole finishing at the top with scrolls alternating with garlands of fruits. The whole is richly adorned with numerous cut and faceted crystal pendants.

*Two identical chandeliers have been made by Louis-Auguste Marquis for the Galerie de la Paix du 37 quai d’Orsay, Hôtel du Ministre des Affaires Étrangères (see attached).
Louis-Auguste Marquis (1811-1885) teamed up in 1839 with another bronze-caster named Gilbert Honoré Chaumont (1790-1868), already specialized in lightings. Elegant Pair of Bronze Torcheres by F. Barbedienne, P. Dubois and A. Falguière
Located in PARIS, FR
MODEL PRESENTED AT THE 1867 PARIS UNIVERSAL EXHIBITION
Listed in the Ferdinand Barbedienne’s catalogue as the “Deux femmes debout” (Two standing ladies)
Signed on each one P. Dubois – F. Barbedienne Fondeur and A. Falguière – F. Barbedienne Fondeur
Rare pair of parcel-gilt and patinated bronze figures, representing two women dressed in Antique style costume with jewels, each upholding a seven lights-arm candelabra. Standing on round bronze bases and black marble socles.
Paul Dubois (1827-1905) entered the Paris Beaux-Arts School in 1858. He exhibited at the 1865 Salon the Chanteur Florentin, illustrating Florentine sculpture, observed after his journey in Italy. This work, cast that time in silvered bronze, was exhibited at the 1867 Paris Universal Exhibition (now preserved at the Orsay museum). Dubois' success brought him many commissions, both private (Portrait of Duc d'Aumale) and public (Jeanne d'Arc, in Reims). Appointed curator at the Luxembourg museum in 1873, Dubois became also a member of the Institute and finally headmaster at the Beaux-Arts School in 1878.
Alexandre Falguière (1831-1900) studied under Jouffroy at the Paris Ecole des Beaux-Arts, began his career at the Paris Salon in 1857 and won as soon as 1859 the “Prix de Rome”. Falguière became very quickly successful and was several times awarded medals at the Salon, such in 1868 with his marble sculpture Tarcisius the Christian Boy-Martyr, or at the 1867 Paris Universal Exhibition, where he won the first medal in his category. Thanks to that success, he was immediately commissioned by private collectors as well as by the French State, whom asked him in 1878 to realize the Triomphe de la République, placed in 1881 at the summit of the Paris Arch of Triumph...

2 Antique 1862 Minton International Exhibition Jeweled Turquoise Plates
By Minton
Located in Dayton, OH
Pair of two Minton plates, circa 1862.
These superb quality Minton plates are from a dessert service shown at the International Exhibition of 1862 in London.
The plates testify to the enduring influence of 18th Century Sèvres on the tastes of Victorian high society. The designs are far from being mere copies, however; while there are recognisable Sèvres elements, they are arranged in entirely new and delightful ways.
On the rim are four imitation cameo heads of classical deities en grisaille on a red-brown ground, within oval reserves wreathed in laurel. The profiles are individually painted; compare, for instance, the winged helmeted heads of Hermes/Mercury and you will spot subtle differences. The cameo devices, used here for the first time by Minton, derive from the celebrated Sèvres dinner...
