Louis XV Ormolu Mntd. Meissen Porcelain Chinoiserie Elephant Clock w/ Snail
Located in New York, NY
An Exceptionally Rare 18th Century Louis XV Ormolu Mounted Meissen Porcelain Chinoiserie Elephant, Snail, and Flower Mantel Clock. The clock drum is painted with floral reserves on a yellow-ground porcelain case, surmounted by a seated monkey modeled in cream-glazed porcelain. The dial is inscribed “MILLOT / Her DU ROY,” referring to the Parisian clockmaker Millot, horloger du roi, and retains its original single-barrel movement with platform lever escapement. The interior of the case bears a stamped “B.” The entire composition is supported by a scrolling structure of polychrome porcelain flowers mounted on ormolu branches, leading to a central Meissen figure seated on a saddled elephant, positioned on an elaborately cast gilt bronze rocaille base.
The composition centers around a chinoiserie theme, which was highly fashionable in mid-18th century France, particularly during the reign of Louis XV. In this example, the chinoiserie elements are expressed through the seated porcelain figure in Chinese dress, riding atop a caparisoned elephant with a vibrantly painted red and gold saddle and bright yellow cushion. The elephant, modeled with expressive naturalism, features finely detailed ears, trunk, and legs in Meissen’s distinctive hand-painted porcelain, with further ornamentation in applied gilding. Surrounding the central figure and timepiece is an elaborate framework of metal branches issuing dozens of individually modeled porcelain blossoms. These include peonies, roses, and tulips in various stages of bloom, each petal uniquely hand-shaped and painted in hues of lilac, ivory, pink, and violet, with naturalistic green leaves extending outward on slender bronze stems.
The gilt bronze mount is executed in the Rococo taste, with asymmetrical shell forms, Snails, C-scrolls, and foliate scrollwork typical of French bronze work from the Louis XV period. The ormolu is mercury-gilded, a process common in the 18th century which involved the application of an amalgam of gold and mercury to the surface of the bronze, followed by firing to vaporize the mercury. This technique created a matte yet luminous surface, prized for its depth and lasting quality. The ormolu is cast in a deeply three-dimensional style, with scrolled feet and boldly molded foliate ornaments that cradle the base of the Meissen elephant...

Large Antique Wooden Carved Black Forest Baroque Stag Head with 10 Point Trophy
Located in Berghuelen, DE
Large Antique Wooden Carved Black Forest Baroque stag head with 10 Point Trophy
A large antique Black Forest baroque stag head. Carved in typical abstract style of the early 18th century. It is mounted on a wooden carved and painted plaque with emblem and foliages and features a large real stag antler trophy. The head still has its original polycrome painted finish witch is partly restored. The left side of the plaque has been replaced. A great individual piece which enhances every wall decoration.
A special way to present hunting trophies is to attach them to carved animal heads. This tradition exists since the Middle Ages. Even after intensive investigations, it is not yet possible to explain exactly how this happened. The carved heads are often colored and mounted on cartouches that are also carved and painted. They follow a naturalistic representation and one could think that in this way they are symbolically brought back from the abstraction of dead antlers into liveliness. Famous artists to be named are Madl in Ichenhausen, Germany and Heissl in Ebensee, Austria. Around 1900, the antler collection...

Antique Four Poster Bed
Located in Bradford-on-Avon, Wiltshire
A fine late 18th Century large Dutch four-poster bed with exceptional posts and ealy 19th century Italian carved giltwood swans.
The posts with well carved elements: neoclassical urns, capitals, carved turnings and vase sections; their most attractive part is the boxwood and mahogany lined inlay which we haven't seen on English 18th beds.
In addition, unusally, the rails are designed to be seen and made in mahogany and framed with carved and plain astragal beads.
Good sturdy construction, fixed together with steel bolts and will dismantle for shipping.
Needs new drapery hangings and the white fabric around the end posts & headboard should be cleaned or replaced. For the new mattress, we would recommend a box spring mattress with a well (height is saved with part of the box mattress fitting between the rails) and a second mattress on top. But you could also fit lathes and just have the top mattress with cut out corners to fit around the posts: norris bedding custom make such mattresses.
This bed originally had fabric around the top but for an additional cost we could make a wooden cornice...

18C English Chippendale Shepherds Crook Armchair
Located in Dallas, TX
Presenting an absolutely stunning and original 18C english chippendale shepherds crook armchair.
Made in England circa 1780-1800 of walnut, this ‘period’ chair is simply Gorgeous in it’s Originality!
It is still covered in it’s original needlepoint/tapestry upholstery with neo-classical elements of a Greek or Roman Goddess sitting holding a staff on the back splat and floral motiff’s elsewhere.
What makes this piece Truly Original is the fact that the needlepoint appears to have been signed by the original owner/maker of the tapestry and it appears to be the family name of “Tancret”.
The arm rests have the most glorious ‘shepherd’s crook’ twists and turns.
The central base section has what appears to be heavily carved Prince of Wales Plumes, signifying the Regency Era.
The knees of the 2 front legs have the most amazingly carved acanthus relief decoration and the 2 front legs end in the best example of ball and claw feet you are ever likely to see.
The back legs also have some interesting detail as the feet are platformed or hooved.
Overall, the piece is in great condition for it’s age and use. There are no major tears or holes in the original tapestry. There is some discoloration but that is to be expected with a piece this old.
There is a very small piece of the central front medallion (bottom left as you look) missing, but it is not noticeable and does not detract from the piece.
One small stain on the back.
Gorgeous natural patina to the wood.
Provenance: From a Wealthy Estate in Kentucky/Tennessee
Condition: Very good. See full description.
Dimensions: 44? tall, 28? wide and 27? deep
Seat height of 18.5? with seat depth of 17.5? and interior seat width of 22.5?
Armrests are 26.25? Tall
The vast movement of people that followed the Norman Conquest of England in 1066 brought the Tancret family name to the British Isles. Tancret comes from the ancient Norman given name Tancred. The Tanksley variant is indeed rare. However, this name traces its origin to Roger Tankerlayman who was listed in Yorkshire in 1387.
Because of this political and religious unrest within English society, many people decided to immigrate to the colonies. Families left for Ireland, North America, and Australia in enormous numbers, traveling at high cost in extremely inhospitable conditions. The New World in particular was a desirable destination, but the long voyage caused many to arrive sick and starving. Those who made it, though, were welcomed by opportunities far greater than they had known at home in England. Many of these families went on to make important contributions to the emerging nations of Canada and the United States. Analysis of immigration records indicates that some of the first North American immigrants...
