Antique Kurdish Rug, Circa 1910

About the Item

Handwoven in Kurdistan located in Iran's west ,this excellent example of Kurdish weaving is made in traditions of rug making of caucuses particularly of the Tallish region Made with high quality wool that is dyed with all organic elements, this rug has a distinctive field design unfound in any other weaving except perhaps in the Tallish area. The weaving is rather coarse compared to Caucasian weaving, but very close to Kazak weaving. Some of the characteristics of this rug such as irregularities in design suggest that the rug is woven by an individual artist weaver for personal use rather than the market. No restorations were found on this carpet and otherwise is in full and excellent condition.
