Fantastic Antique Caucasian Sumak carpet or rug. An impressive antique flat-weave carpet or rug from the Caucasus, woven in the intricate "Sumak" brocading technique, with rich details and even richer colors. This carpet is also of unusually large proportions.
Caucasian sumaks like this display a very sophisticated aesthetic, inherited from earlier weaving traditions of this prolific region. They were prestigious floor coverings, often commissioned by wealthy local patrons.
This carpet is in excellent state of preservation after only minor repairs. An extremely rare find.
