?78125 Distressed Vintage Chinese Peking rug with Art Deco Style 07'06 x 10'07. ?With Art Deco style, this hand knotted wool distressed vintage Chinese Peking rug features an elegant central open medallion dotted with flowering vases across the lovingly-time worn navy blue field. Each corner spandrel is adorned with a variety of flower species blooming from a gnarled tree branch where a pair of birds are perched. It is enclosed with a Ruyi scepter? and floral border flanked with an inner floral and butterfly guard band. The ensemble of flowers represented are lotuses, peonies, chrysanthemums, and plum blossoms, which, when appearing together, represent the four seasons. Each of the flowers carries its own meaning in Chinese culture. The lotus, the flower of summer, symbolizes purity and perfection, since its clean vibrant blooms emerge from the mud of swamps and marshes. Peonies, the flower of spring, represent unparalleled beauty and honor, they have long been regarded as a symbol of wealth. Chrysanthemums, the flower of autumn, are associated with long life and a golden retirement, the dried petals of the flower immersed in wine were once thought to bring longevity to those who drank it.
