This hand knotted wool distressed antique Chinese Peking area rug features a group of flowering cloisonné vases in each corner spandrel. At the center of the weathered field, a group of three cloisonné vases possibly representing the three important stages in a man’s life: birth, marriage and death. The three Chinese cloisonné vases contain bamboo, chrysanthemums, peonies, and blooming lotus flowers. Bamboo is a represents long life and symbolizes longevity. Chrysanthemums represent long life. Peonies represent unparalleled beauty and honour. Blooming lotuses symbolize purity and perfection because their clean vibrant blooms emerge from the mud of swamps and marshes.
