Antique Persian Farahan, circa 1910

About the Item

This rug is hand woven in the town of Farahan located in west Persia.Farahan carpets are very finely woven with hard wool and they are clipped very flat. The restrained style of decoration is almost gothic in character. Farahan carpets came to prominence in the 18th century. The foundation, warp and weft are strong, often rather thin cotton. Knots are more often in the Turkish knot. This Farahan with rust field,soft green is made with all organic dye, is evenly low pile, no restorations and in excellent condition is extremely elegant. Measures: 8’6” x 11’5”.
