Antique Persian Sarouk Farahan Circa 1900
About the Item
Tightly hand knotted, this carpet is made in the town of Farahan in west Persia. Farahan rugs are made with hard wool and clipped very flat. The restrained style of decoration is almost gothic in character. The foundation is strong, often rather thin cotton and knots are Turkish.
The allure of this rug is irresistible with the floral and geometric shapes and time softened colors. The dyes used to make this rug are all organic and the ground color dark blue is extracted from indigo plant. Few expert restoration were found in this rug and otherwise is in good condition.
