Antique Persian Farahan Sarouk, circa 1900

About the Item

A timeless antique Persian Farahan, this carpet is woven with very fine knots in western Iran. The restrained style of decoration of Farahan rugs are almost gothic in caracter, foundation is very strong of rather thin cotton and knots are Turkish. A notable feature of this rug is the ivory field that is a rarity in this group. Other colors like salmon, light green, sky blue make the glamour of this rug irresistible. The rug is framed by a beautiful classic navy blue border and the contrast creates a feeling of greater distance and separation. There is one very small restoration performed by a master weaver on this rug, the pile is evenly low and sides and ends are all original.
