Red, Cream, and Indigo Traditional Persian Ghashghai Carpet

$1,350

About

Measuring 5’3” x 7’1”, this Persian Ghashghai carpet in shades of red, blue, green, cream, and orange wool, is hand-knotted and belongs to Orley Shabahang’s World Market Collection. To craft this carpet, the weaver utilized a Persian weaving technique. This technique requires each thread of the carpet's pile to be hand-knotted. The weave holds the pile and foundation together without the use of latex or binding agents. It also provides a plush pile and a durable foundation. Artisans also utilized organic vegetable dyes to obtain the vibrant red, orange, blue, and green hues of yarn. Inside the field, we find four magnificent, centered medallions and multiple flowers and animal motifs. The design resembles a traditional Persian flower garden. The four medallions represent a water feature called a hoz. Within the medallions, an array of flower motifs neatly aligned and build symmetry. Surrounding the carpet’s medallions is a deep red field with an assortment of flower, butterfly, animal, and human motifs. These tribal stylized motifs are detailed in black, cream, blue, and orange wool, creating fabulous contrast for this carpet's design. Moving outward, we are met by an intricate, multi-level border that includes additional caterpillar and flower motifs. The outermost cream border also resembles the garden’s outer walkway and provides a peaceful but intricate enclosure to this exciting carpet. This piece is in like-new condition.
