This is an antique carved armchair. A French, painted mahogany fauteuil chair, dating to the late Victorian period, circa 1870. Classic example of a fauteuil chair, with an open frame and upholstered arms Displays a desirable aged patina and in good order throughout Painted mahogany show frame presents an appealing light golden hue Quality silk cotton upholstery in appealing condition with foliate pattern Spoon back rest enhanced with a striking carved cresting rail Superb relief carvings adorn the frame edge with aplomb Padded back rest pleasingly adorned with a press stud border Superb manchette arms terminate in fascinating ram's head masks Deeply cushioned seat resides at a comfortable height of 46cm (18'') Delightfully comfortable, stuffed in the traditional manner over a robust frame Lower apron hosts a carved leaf pattern, with block shoulders adorned with fleur-de-lis Raised upon turned and tapering cylindrical legs, with ornate sash curtain motif This is an elegant antique carved armchair, and appealingly classic French fauteuil with an expressive, substantial frame and beautifully upholstered.
