About the Item

Exceptional pair of armchairs created by French designer Robert Guillerme & Jacques Chambron. “ Votre Maison, Your Home ” edition. “Romeo & Juliet” Model or “ Rest & Small Rest ” Model. Named so because the first "Romeo" armchair was created for a stout person and the second "Juliet" armchair is a little smaller (-0.8"), created for a thinner person. Honey-colored solid oak structure, called a skeleton, with finger-shaped backrests, armrests and organically shaped legs. Fabrics are entirely original for the two armchairs with two additional cushions (slight wear). The positive/negative process is applied to the upholstery. A Pune colored fabric with Orchyd colored buttons for the larger armchair and for the small armchair an Orchyd colored fabric with Plum colored buttons. The armchairs are in very good original condition, stable and robust, very comfortable. France 1960s “Romeo” dimensions: Back height 36.20" / 92 cm Seat height 15.75" / 40 cm Width 31.50" / 80 cm Depth 34.25" / 87 cm “Juliet” dimension: Back height 34.43" / 90 cm Seat height 15.75" / 40 cm Width 30.71" / 78 cm Depth 34.46" / 85 cm Robert Guillerme graduated in 1934 from the École Boulle where he excelled in architecture and furniture design. After World War II, he settled in Lille, in northern France. In 1948, Robert Guillerme was joined by his long-time friend, the decorator Jacques Chambron in Lille. The following year, Guillerme and Chambron met master cabinetmaker Émile Dariosecq, owner of a carpentry workshop, and the company Vos Maison was born. Together, they defined and imposed a new concept of furniture. Thanks to the creativity, originality and quality that characterize them, Vos Maison's products have quickly acquired great notoriety. Your House has marked the history of French design. Robert Guillerme designs the furniture while Jacques Chambron plays the role of salesman, welcoming and advising customers. The striking duo is completed by Dariosecq, whose workshop is responsible for manufacturing. Together they defined new furnishing concepts. Well-crafted chair backs, polished wood and thick cushions are the reputation of their armchairs and sofas.

Pair of Guillerme et Chambron "Edouard" Armchairs for Votre Maison, France 1960s
By Guillerme et Chambron, Votre Maison
Located in Utrecht, NL
The “Edouard” lounge chair is often described as a “caquetoire”, or a conversation chair. This type of seating was an armchair style which emerged during the European Renaissance in France. As the name suggests, this type of chair was meant for sitting for elongated periods to chat. Generally, these chairs were also highly regarded for their aesthetic value as well, which can also be said about these exceptional chair models. The “Edouard” is a sculptural model with a blonde oak frame that is characteristic of the French designer duo. The design showcases the wide variety of shapes and forms of the solid oak frames, from the curving lines to the straighter spindles comprising the backrests. Naturally, a conversation chair needs to be first and foremost functional and comfortable, therefore the backs are slightly tilted, and the seat raised, aided by the generous seat and back cushions. The fuchsia-coloured upholstery beautifully complements the wood tone, and the small textured loops of fabric highlight the smoothness of the frames’ surface. The French caquetoire chairs...
