About the Item

Designed by Afra & Tobia Scarpa for Maxalto in the 1970s, the Artona series represents a shift toward finely crafted, materially focused furniture within the broader B&B Italia group. These lounge chairs are constructed from solid walnut with precise joinery and a clear structural logic. The design features broad and cubic vertical legs, integrated armrests, and a curved backrest. The seats retain their original black leather upholstery, which shows a natural patina. The overall composition is balanced and direct, reflecting the Scarpas' architectural approach to form and detailing. This pair belongs to an early period in Maxalto’s production, created in very limited numbers.
