About the Item

Rare pair of foldable theatre chairs designed by Poul Henningsen in 1957 for the renovation of the Betty Nansen Theatre (earlier The Young Theatre) in Copenhagen and made by Andreas Christensen. The chairs were featured in the renowned Danish design magazine Mobilia (no 322) in 1984. The last pictures are taken from that article. Base and frame made of black lacquered metal with brass stems at the back. Rubber cover sits over the tubular steel armrests. Blue fabric upholstery to the back and seat cushion. The chairs are in an untouched original condition with the original blue upholstery which is in decent shape. It has repairs and ware on top of both back cushion. The black painted frame has a bit of rust, scratches and missing paint but they both are in a very honest used condition. This model was only made for the theatre and has never been in serial production so they are a bit of Danish architectural history.
