About the Item

Marvelous Mid-20th Century Scandinavian Modern set of 6 teak dining chairs by Uldum Mobelfabrik Attributed to Johannes Andersen with golden chenille fabric. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that these are vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear even if they have been refinished or restored. These have been attributed based upon archived research including online sources, vintage documentation and catalogs, designer literature. Specifically, they have been shampooed but still retain some spots particularly the top edge of the seat backs. Fabric is useable but will eventually need reupholstered. They are priced accordingly. Please see photos, zoom in for details, and see long description as they are part of the condition report. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, Mid-20th Century. Time to elevate your dining experience!!! This is a set of 6 Scandinavian Modern dining chairs 2 arm and 4 side chairs by Uldum Mobelfabrik and attributed to Johannes Andersen, made in Denmark. They are comprised of lovely teak frames with clean lines including tapered square straight front legs, slightly flared back legs that double as the seat back sides and hold the slightly curved back seat cushion, lower back stretcher, and wonderful square seat cushions inside a square seat frame with a front apron. Both the back & seats are covered in a charming golden chenille fabric with a reddish-gold or copper-ish hue. The chenille wraps around the back in one direction, so the nap runs a different direction on each side creating a cool shadow effect. But (sigh!) the fabric has seen better days. It can certainly be used for a while although most will want to reupholster… which we never think of that as a negative aspect because we LOVE new fabrics… and think of the ENDLESS and FANTASTIC possibilities! My mother, who is an incredible retired interior designer, thought it would be fun to cover the seat cushion in one fabric and the back cushion in a contrasting fabric! WOW!!! That would be SPECTACULAR!! They are beautifully crafted, ergonomically pleasing, and highly functional. These chairs encapsulate the hallmark of quintessential Scandinavian Modern design and are sure to make a bold statement surrounding your dining table; however, you may want to consider our listings for matching Scandinavian Modern dining tables as we have several listed here that will compliment them nicely… check them out!! They would also be wonderfully utilized at the office surrounding a conference table or even in a waiting area. Wherever they go, they are sure to create a SPECTACULAR seating experience!! Johannes Andersen was born in 1903 in Aarhus, Denmark. During his younger life he worked as an apprentice cabinet maker and received his certification in 1922. He started his own architectural workshop in the 1930’s and created several pieces for Trensum, a Swedish furniture manufacturer. While working with Trensum he designed myriad coffee tables consisting of rosewood and teak and he launched the “Capri” sofa and sofa table series that would later become popular worldwide. Andersen’s work erupted over the 1950-1960’s and his coffee tables were being produced globally. He became renowned for his sophisticated use of high-quality woods and attention to the smallest details. He continued creating new designs until he turned 80 and at this time he closed his office. Mr. Andersen passed away in 1991, but his designs live on and are highly sought after today. While the exact founding date is unclear, as the company’s history is not widely documented, Danish furniture manufacturer Uldum Mobelfabrik was based in Uldum, Jutland. They were a mid-century Danish furniture maker from the 1960’s, particularly known for its dining tables and chairs. Their furniture was often made from teak or rosewood and recognizable for their clean lines, simplicity, elegant design, and high-quality craftsmanship. Uldum Mobelfabrik has worked with many leading Scandinavian Modern designers including Johannes Andersen & Ilse Rix. Though the company has dissolved, their furniture is highly sought after today. Clean Lines, unparalleled quality, exceptional comfort, and incomparable Scandinavian Modern style. This set of 6 teak dining chairs by Uldum Mobelfabrik Attributed to Johannes Andersen has it ALL. Vintage MCM Keller Furniture Oak Valkerie ii Dining Chairs by Edmond J Spence
By Edmond J. Spence, Keller
Located in Topeka, KS
Handsome vintage Mid-Century Modern Keller furniture Valkerie II Line dining or side chairs by Edmond J. Spence, a pair. Comprised of oak frames, blue fabric upholstered seats, and chrome sabots on the front feet. This piece has been attributed based upon archived research including online sources, vintage documentation and catalogs, designer literature, and other materials. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that these are vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear. The seats have been newly upholstered in a plain blue/black duck fabric. Please see photos and zoom in for details. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, mid-20th century. What a TERRIFIC TWOSOME!!! This is a gorgeous pair of vintage Valkerie II Line dining or side chairs designed by Edmond J. Spence for Keller Furniture. They are comprised of lovely oak frames with slightly angled backs featuring sculpted “boomerang” shaped backs with spindles, straight round tapered front legs with stretchers and chrome sabots on the feet. Their seats have been freshly upholstered in a plain blue/black duck fabric. (We are calling it blue / black as some see it as black and some see it as a deep navy blue.) Did you notice that the handsome chair back and flared back legs are all one piece? Just an awesome design… and super comfortable!! They are mid-century modern with a Danish or Scandinavian modern flair, and they are going to be magnificent seating in your dining or kitchen area, side chairs in your bedroom, or extra seating in your family room. Sometimes you just need a simple little pair of chairs. You know? Just good looking, sturdy, and serviceable chairs. This is just that pair! Edmond J. Spence was an American designer who made a name for himself interpreting Danish Modernism in his own way and blending it with the atomic and organic influences of the mid to late 1950's. Mr. Spence grew up in a family business that manufactured high quality traditional furniture, including ornate, custom carved pieces. He was trained as a designer, and created industrial products, household items including clocks and radios. He began to focus on furniture, and he sensed the trend toward modern design. During the 1950s, Spence drew on Asian and Swedish influences in developing ideas for his own style of modern furniture. He incorporated aspects of Mexican design to create the Continental-American collection tagged “Ageless Furniture-Edmond J. Spence Design.” Manufactured in 1953 by Industria Mueblera. His work has been described as “a little bit Deco, a little tiki, with a heavy atomic & Danish influence.” He won awards and in the early 50’s his work was displayed at the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art in New York. And a fun fact, his furniture was used on the set of the “I Love Lucy” show for many years. -Mid 2 Mod. Mr. Spence passed away in 1986. Keller Manufacturing Company was founded in 1885 but Keller Furniture history dates back to 1866 when the “Keller Store” in Corydon Indiana was established. From that time, the operation entered into various businesses, including wagon productions from 1901-1912, running an electrical light plant, manufacturing spokes for farm wagons...
